Book Review: "Odd Spirits" by S. T. Gibson πŸ‘»

I recently finished the book "Odd Spirits" by S. T. Gibson. I came across it while browsing at Half Price Bookstore (in Austin, Texas) and fell in love with the cover design. I know you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but in this case I'm glad I did! Odd Spirits was a delight to read, and being only some 30,000 words, it was also a quick read. I finished it in just a few days and paired it with the New Moon candle!Β

The novella is a prequel to a four book series called Summoner's Circle. Book One and Two are already out, Evocation and Ascension, respectively. It follows the tale of a newly wed couple, Rhys and Moira, who deal with marriage problems as well as a spooky evil spirit in their house that knocks stuff over and makes a mess.Β

What's cool about Odd Spirits is it isn't just any marriage-problems story. I don't want to give too much away, but there's specifically a tension between them due to their different approaches to magic. Yes, they're both magical - Rhys is more of a by-the-books sorcerer and Moira a witch that leads with her intuition.Β

This dynamic made reading about their newly wed problems more entertaining and interesting. They're not arguing about who should do the dishes, they're arguing about how to best perform a spell!

Overall, I would give this book 5 out of 5 moons! I highly recommend it if you're in the mood for a witchy, spooky, lighthearted read and are looking for your next series to dive into! I definitely wasn't looking for a series, but after reading this book, I am excited to dive deeper into Moira and Rhys's story! S.T. Gibson is a master at her craft of storytelling and writing as well - which definitely helps this book receive a 5-moon rating.Β

My Rating: πŸŒ™πŸŒ™πŸŒ™πŸŒ™πŸŒ™

I recommend pairing this book with our New Moon candle or wax melts. It's one of our spookiest scents with hints of musk, velvet vanilla, and midnight sea. The black candle also matches Odd Spirit's gothic romantasy vibe!

Sincerely,

Ellen
